A diet without the above-mentioned ingredients can weaken enamel and dentin. Vitamin D deficiency, which in the long term leads to periodontal disease, weakening of the tooth structure and development of caries may be particularly dangerous.

Another problem that vegetarians face is the risk of acid erosion. It is irreversible and very harmful to teeth. Initially, the process is invisible to the naked eye. Over time, the tooth surface becomes dull, cavities in the enamel appear, and as a result not only the enamel but also the dentin is defective, including the risk of exposing the pulp. The problem here is acids, the source of which are raw vegetables and fruits that have a greater share in the vegetarian diet than in the meat diet. Products that are particularly conducive to the formation of enamel erosion include: fruit, citrus fruit, fruit juice, fruit and vegetable cocktails, soda, as well as soluble tablets containing vitamin C. So the important question arises how to care for teeth on a vegetarian diet? If you decide on vegetarianism, you should go to a dietitian who will tell you how to compose the first menus. This is a way to avoid deficiencies of vitamins and minerals leading to weakness of the teeth or gum disease.

Vegetarians should pay special attention to proper oral hygiene. Fruits contain sugars that promote bacterial growth. That is why it is worth paying more attention to the correct brushing of teeth. Due to the presence of acids, you must remember not to brush your teeth immediately after a meal, and wait 15-20 minutes. If it is not possible to brush your teeth, you should at least rinse your mouth with water. Red, orange or purple fruit and vegetables can leave discoloration on the teeth. Do not try intensive whitening treatments on your own. It is safer to contact a dentist who will perform the procedure in the office. Once every six months, it is worth visiting a dentist to perform an oral examination and remove accumulated sediment and scale.
